A little more information regarding clergy garments include further detail on the zucchetti. The Pope and all cardinals wear a zucchetti  that has a special 3- D effect, what is often called a moire' pattern
(part of the actual cloth). The use of this type of watered silk is considered a special honor.

During solemn ceremonies, you may notice very special garments. Cardinals, archbishops, and bishops wear a special cassock during solemn ceremonies called a choir cassock. Cardinals wear choir cassocks that are scarlet and have special watered silk cuffs. Archbishops and bishops wear purple choir cassocks. On top of the colored cassock is worn a lacy white silk garment called a rochet and then a short wool cape called a mozzetta which is the same color as the cassock. The elbow length mozzetta completely covers the person wearing it and is buttoned up the front. On top of the mozzetta the cardinal or bishop will wear his pectoral cross, hanging from a special colored cord and a simple stole. The stole is a long narrow strip of cloth worn by all priests at Mass.

Cardinals wear the little square hat with three or four ridges known as the biretta. The cardinals biretta is moire'-ized scarlet in color and a few traditional bishops  in purple. The cardinals are given the biretta in the consistory which confers membership into the College of Cardinals. In church history most clergy used to wear the biretta. In addition in some  coat of arms of bishops and cardinals you may still see what is called the  galero ( appears as a flattened traditional hat and brim).
